Many visitors to our gallery comment on the exceptional quality of artwork displayed in such a small showroom in such a rural and sparsely populated town. None of our artists is more deserving of this praise than Salt Lake City resident Jim Stewart, who creates original hand-carved, hand-painted masks,  vases, bowls, pitchers, and intricate sculptural pieces.

"Jim's techniques are far beyond what most people are doing with clay" says gallery owner and potter Greg Worthington.

Jim uses many ancient and contemporary sources of design: Egyptian, Mesopotamian, pre-Columbian, and Picasso-esque. He is also strongly influenced by the Southwestern Fremont and Anasazi cultures.

This artist uses the clay vessel as a canvas.  He invests a significant length of time creating each one-of-a-kind piece exploring the complex and elaborate technique he carries far beyond what most clay artists understand as possible.

Jim is a master in both glaze application and in painstaking sculptural features.  Many of his pieces have intriguing details such as double imagery and everyday items that may not be immediately noticed.  His emotional approach creates pieces that speak to people.  His artwork can serve as focal decor for the home or office and for special occasions such as trip remembrances, birthdays or anniversaries.
