Jim Stewart uses the clay vessel as a canvas. He invests a significant length of time creating each one-of-a-kind piece exploring the complex and elaborate technique he carries far beyond what most clay artists understand as possible.
Jim is a master in both glaze application and in painstaking sculptural features. Many of his pieces have intriguing details such as double imagery and everyday items that may not be immediately noticed. His emotional approach creates pieces that speak to people.
“Jim’s techniques are far beyond what most people are doing with clay,” says gallery owner and potter Greg Worthington.
Many visitors to our gallery comment on the exceptional quality of artwork displayed in such a small showroom in such a rural and sparsely populated town. None of our artists is more deserving of this praise than Salt Lake City resident Jim Stewart, who creates original one of a kind hand-carved, hand-painted masks, vases, bowls, pitchers, tea pots, and intricate sculptural pieces.
